but we have this treasure


My friend Hollie drew this when we were spending our days with pregnant women in India, for most of 2007.  I really love this.  That year I was very aware of my earthen-ness: the heat, the crowds, dirt floors in tents, team dynamics, loneliness,  extreme poverty, injustice and suffering. 

But we have this treasure.

I still often feel very much like I'm made of clay or dirt, close to crumbling and definitely cracking.  But still, in more ways than one, I'm seen fit to carry a treasure.  This is extremely humbling.

And you, my friend, are too.
